PHNOM PENH, May 21, 2026— Cambodia is preparing to dispatch a high-level civil society delegation to China for a 20-day study mission focused on rural revitalization, poverty reduction, and sustainable community development.
The initiative was discussed during an online meeting led by H.E. Duong Virath, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Civil Society Alliance Forum (CSAF), with partner civil society organizations ahead of the upcoming dialogue forum with Chinese counterparts in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Sichuan Province.
The mission aims to strengthen cooperation between Cambodian and Chinese civil society organizations through the exchange of practical experiences and successful development models, particularly in rural transformation, community participation, and livelihood improvement.
During the meeting, H.E. Duong Virath encouraged participating organizations to prepare presentations and insights related to their local development work in order to maximize learning opportunities during the visit.
The delegation will consist of 25 representatives from CSAF, civil society organizations, associations, and partner institutions working across sectors including education, healthcare, environmental protection, agriculture, and rural development.
Among the selected participants is the Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia (CAC), which was chosen by the Civil Society Alliance Forum under the Office of the Council of Ministers to join the high-level mission.
The study tour, scheduled from June 9 to June 28, 2026, is being coordinated by CSAF with support from the China Foundation for Peace and Development.
Officials said the program is expected to strengthen friendly relations between Cambodian and Chinese civil society while promoting the adoption of innovative development practices that can support sustainable rural growth in Cambodia.
Particular attention is expected to focus on China’s internationally recognized rural revitalization models, especially the “One Village, One Product” (OVOP) approach implemented in provinces such as Sichuan. The system combines digital agricultural infrastructure, cooperative supply chains, and localized economic specialization to improve rural incomes and market access.
Silot Uon, says the participation of CAC represents an important opportunity for Cambodia’s cashew sector to gain exposure to advanced agricultural development strategies that could help strengthen farmer cooperatives, value-added processing, and rural economic networks across the country.
