Synopsis: The talks centre on strengthening public-private dialogue and resolving challenges facing mining and energy businesses.
The Cambodia Chamber of Commerce (CCC) yesterday held a meeting with the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) to strengthen public-private dialogue and address challenges facing businesses in the mining and energy sectors.
The meeting was co-chaired by Mines and Energy Minister Keo Rottanak, who is also Third Vice-President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and CCC President Kith Meng, who also chairs the Coordinating Committee of the Private Sector Working Group under the Government-Private Sector Forum Mechanism and the ASEAN Business Advisory Council for Cambodia.
The Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia dispatched a representative to participate in the event, as invited. CAC is actively engaged in advancing the Royal Government's reform agenda through its involvement in the Government-Private Sector Forum (G-PSF). This underscores the significance of public-private dialogue in enhancing the business and investment climate in Cambodia.
The event was attended by ministry leaders and officials, CCC members, presidents and representatives of the capital-provincial chambers of commerce, co-chairs of the private sector working groups under the Government-Private Sector Forum, as well as representatives of business associations, private companies and other stakeholders.
The meeting aimed to establish a direct and transparent platform for dialogue between the government and the private sector. It also provided an opportunity for businesses and investors to share recommendations, exchange information and discuss the development of Cambodia’s mining and energy sectors.
Participants also raised challenges and concerns related to energy consumption, electricity costs, technical barriers and legal standards.
The discussions were intended to facilitate coordination and identify practical solutions with the Ministry of Mines and Energy and the government.
Rottanak said the private sector is an indispensable partner of the government and a key driver of national economic growth.
