Kampong Thom, May 29, 2026 — A team from the National Institute of Science, Technology and Innovation (NISTI) conducted a three-day field mission in Kampong Thom province from May 27–29 to assess the needs of Cambodia’s cashew sector and identify technological solutions to improve harvesting and processing practices.
The mission involved consultations and in-depth interviews with relevant government departments, stakeholders, six model cashew farmers, and several major cashew processing enterprises operating in the province.
According to NISTI, the information gathered will contribute to the development and implementation of technologies aimed at improving productivity, processing efficiency, quality standards, and the overall competitiveness of Cambodia’s cashew industry.
The Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia (CAC) was among the key stakeholders selected for consultation during the study. The CAC showcased its processing training facility and demonstration plant located at its head office in Kampong Thom.
The facility serves as a practical training center for aspiring cashew processors and currently hosts student interns from vocational training institutions, including the Polytechnic Institute of Kampong Thom.
Silot Uon, President of the Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia, emphasized the importance of the training facility in preparing the workforce needed for the country's growing processing industry.
“The facility serves as a focal point for skills development and practical training ahead of the launch of the Cashew Industrial Park,” he said.
Silot added that Cambodia’s Skilled Development Fund has also expressed interest in supporting the initiative and expanding training programs for workers, technicians, and mechanics specialized in cashew processing.
The effort aims to ensure a steady supply of skilled labor for future processing facilities expected to operate within the upcoming Cashew Industrial Park, a flagship project designed to strengthen domestic value-added production and reduce Cambodia’s reliance on raw cashew exports.
Industry observers say the collaboration between research institutions, training centers, and industry stakeholders will be essential in supporting Cambodia’s ambition to become a leading processor and exporter of high-quality cashew products.
