Kampong Thom, March 19, 2026 — Silot Uon, Chairman of the Cashew Nut Association of Cambodia (CAC), met with representatives from the Forestry Administration (FA) under the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) at the CAC headquarters in Kampong Thom to discuss collaboration on climate-focused investment initiatives.
The meeting is part of a broader effort by the Forestry Administration, in partnership with Artha Networks and the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO), to explore private-sector investment opportunities in sustainable agriculture and forestry projects aimed at addressing climate change in Cambodia.
AFoCO, an intergovernmental organization based in Seoul, South Korea, comprises 17 member countries across Asia working on carbon credit initiatives. Cambodia is among its members and is currently implementing REDD+ programs in Battambang, Kampong Thom, Kratie, and Stung Treng provinces.
The consultation with CAC aimed to introduce the collaboration between FA, Artha Networks, and AFoCO, gather insights on private sector investment priorities, and identify potential pathways to mobilize private capital into forest and landscape-based initiatives, including nature-based and market-driven solutions.
The delegation included Mr. Norin Khorn, Acting Chief of Administration for International Cooperation and ASEAN Affairs at the Forestry Administration, representatives from Artha Networks, and Ms. Youngju Han, Program Officer of the Carbon Project Team at AFoCO.
During the meeting, Ms. Han outlined ongoing carbon projects in Cambodia and encouraged CAC members to integrate native forestry trees along farm boundaries as natural fences. She noted that farmers could potentially earn carbon credits of approximately $0.25 per tree annually through collaboration with FA and AFoCO.
Silot Uon welcomed the initiative and pledged to promote the concept among CAC members, highlighting the CAC’s commitment to environmentally friendly practices. He also confirmed that further discussions and dissemination of the project to cashew farmers are planned for July 2026.
